What This Site Does
Connecticut keeps most jail and inmate information open to the public. The hard part is knowing which office actually holds the person you are trying to find. Many people search for a "New Haven County jail" and a sheriff's roster that do not exist. The county jail model ended here in 1968, when Connecticut folded its county jails and state prisons into one agency.
Today the Connecticut Department of Correction runs the facilities that handle both pretrial detainees and sentenced prisoners. A statewide DOC locator covers people in that system, whether they are still awaiting trial or already serving a sentence. Federal prisoners and immigration detainees appear in separate national systems instead. This site explains each of those paths and pulls the locators, addresses, phone numbers, visiting rules, and records-request steps into one place built for New Haven County.
